I lived in Pattani (Saiburi) and worked at Saiburi Christian Hospital and then later I taught English at St Francis Xavier School in Pakkret. Do you still have the substitute and healthier option for MaMa? I couldn't find it when you first let us know. I now live the Lower Mainland (in part of Metro Vancouver.

It is a problem also when saying English to Thais. A few months after moving to Thailand, I needed a taxi to go to the OR-I-EN-TAL Hotel. The driver had no idea what I wanted, and once I had directed him to the general neighbourhood, I got out and walked. The next day I vented my frustration to my Thai assistant. "Its your fault" she replied calmly; "You said it wrong". And proceeded to correct my pronunciation to ask for the "OH-LEN-TAN" hotel. Its a good thing that foreigners and Thais handle these confusions with humor and sanuk!!
Either spelling will get you there. But to save confusion someone could try to make standardized English........but then it no fun to discuss it. Chip hai
