Sawaddee ka đđŒ
Christmas isnât celebrated in Thailand but now that I live in North America - and have a little one - itâs become a much bigger part of my winter calendar.
But, as Iâm sure youâve guessed, I canât do a traditional Western Christmas without adding a little Thai flavour to it! đčđ
Brussels sprouts? Sure - but Thai style. Roast chicken? Of course! But Iâm adding a Thai marinade. And I donât care what holiday it is, itâs not a party unless somebody brings spring rolls! đ
Try one of these festive dishes with your holiday meal and you wonât be disappointed!
And from me to you, have a very happy holidays! đ
Green Curry Spring Rolls
Like I said, itâs not a party until somebody brings the spring rolls! Green Curry Spring Rolls are a mash up of two of the most popular Thai dishes. Crispy spring rolls filled with Thai green curry are, in a word, irresistible! You can even do most of the work in advance, which is ideal for a party!
Thai Roast Chicken & Gravy
Thai Roast Chicken and Gravy is a delicious alternative to turkey when youâre having a small holiday get together. The chicken is flavored with a Thai marinade and then roasted on a bed of Thai herbs so all those familiar Thai flavors are there. But letâs talk about the gravy because it is out of this world đȘđ« Itâs enriched with coconut milk and let me tell you, itâs the best gravy youâll ever have!
Spicy Thai Brussels Sprouts
Brussels sprouts - you either love them or you donât. But Iâm willing to bet that this version might convert a few people to the âlove themâ camp! Spicy Thai Brussels Sprouts are cooked till theyâre perfectly al dente (no mushy sprouts here!) and tossed in the iconic tart, spicy and garlicky Thai âyumâ dressing! Yum indeed!
Soy Caramel Roasted Squash with Thai Basil
Soy Caramel Roasted Squash with Thai Basil is a really subtle way to add Asian flavours to your holiday table. Itâs one of my favourite sides. Sweet & creamy kabocha squash is brushed with a sweet and salty glaze and itâs delightful. Check out the written recipe for two other glazes you can try. This is simple enough that you can make all throughout the winter months with any meal!
Caramel Custard Cake
Caramel Custard Cake is, without question, my all time favourite cake. It is unlike any other cake out there and I canât resist it when itâs on offer. If you love flan or crĂšme brĂ»lĂ©e then you MUST try this. Itâs a combo of fluffy chiffon, creamy rich custard and a deep flavored caramel. Itâs sold in most Thai bakeries but, I like my version better - it has a thicker custard layer. đ€© This is one where youâll want to watch the video to see the whole process, step-by-step.
Thanks for the Ideas, Pailin. And Xmas In Australia is a bit different as so Hot, and when I was young, long road trips o f over 1000Km to be with family.
Taught about cooking by my grandfather who was a man of many talents, including blacksmithing. So a v strong arm on the whisk. My scientist mum, had a v limited but good repertoire, which she still retains at age 93. One of hers a bit like yours; Lemon Curd Cake.
