Sawaddee ka 🙏🏼
There are a few tasks in the kitchen that I hate, for example skewering, wrapping individual pieces of anything, and peeling garlic.
But there are also tasks that I find immensely satisfying, such as hand-kneading dough and pounding green papaya salad. And now I’ve found something else: grating fresh glass noodles.
“Grating noodles” might sound completely bizarre, but I do mean that in the literal sense as you will see in the latest video:
While the grating of the noodles was the most satisfying part, just about every step in the process was so very cool. It felt like a science experiment the first time I made it!
The noodles are then tossed in a Chinese style soy-sesame dressing (to be clear, this is not a Thai dish). The whole thing, including the noodle making, is very easy.
But it’s not just satisfying and easy, the resulting salad is delicious, refreshing, and makes for the perfect appetizer for the few remaining days of summer.

Just picked up your book at the McGill University bookstore while we were dropping our eldest off! So fun to see it from across the room - and exclaim - “ohh! We HAVE to get this”! I’m going to work through it first and then pass it along - maybe 555! We lived in Bkk for 2 yrs so it’s great to have the tips for North American shopping. Khap khun mak kha. 🙏🇹🇭🥰
I also hate skewering 😂 it’s nice to know I’m not alone
