Sawaddee Ka 🙏🏼,
As per my previous newsletter, when I was in Thailand I visited an iconic restaurant in Bangkok, Jeh O, in order to try their viral instant noodle dish and recreate it. But while I was there, I also had another dish that absolutely blew me away: their simple-yet-incredible salmon sashimi salad.
I knew instantly that I had to recreate it, especially since I knew exactly what needed to be done because it’s so simple. Just make the Thai seafood sauce, toss it with the salmon, et voila.
I already have a recipe for an all-purpose Thai seafood Sauce (nam jim seafood) that’s made for dipping, but I had to tweak the formula a bit to make it perfect for tossing the salmon. You wouldn’t believe how simple it is, here’s me making it:
A note about raw salmon safety: In the video I mentioned that you should use “sashimi grade” salmon. Even though “sashimi grade” is not a real designation given by some governing body, I said that so that you would stop to question whether the salmon you’re buying is safe for eating raw. The thing NOT to do is to just use any raw salmon you buy from wherever.
I wrote more about this on the written recipe post to guide you, and if you’re nervous, there is always one (rather expensive) option, and that is to buy sashimi from your local sushi restaurant, ditch the soy sauce and make nam jim seafood instead!
I wonder…would this recipe work with poke tuna?
