Cooking sticky rice has been a bit of a saga for me. For years I’ve been looking for the perfect way to do it, and I think I have finally found it.
Cooking regular rice is very simple: put it in a pot/rice cooker with roughly the right amount of water, turn it on, and out it comes. No fuss, and rarely does anything go terribly wrong. (But if you’re still struggling with perfect jasmine rice, this will help.)
Sticky rice is MUCH fussier. The wise peoples of Southeast Asia developed a foolproof method that has been the traditional way we cook sticky rice: soak it in room temp water for many hours, drain, and steam.
Fast forward to modern times…the hours of soaking presents a problem for busy lifestyles. So many people, myself included, have tried to come up with various shortcuts, and I have shared them previously.
In my latest video, I shared my newest discovery that I think is the best method yet. No advance planning required, and it yields a result that is not only perfect, but is even better than the traditional cold-soak!
Watch the video below and I will explain how and why it works, or you can read about it on the blog.
