Sawaddee Ka! đđź
First, if youâre in NYC, Iâm hosting a âMeet & Eatâ on Wednesday Nov 29th, 5:00pm! Youâll have a tasty Thai meal at the Michelin-recommended Somtum Der in East Village, and youâll be hanging out with me! đ This is a small event and there are not many tickets left, so if you would like to come please hurry!
Now letâs move on to the cult-favorite Thai wings at KFC
Youâd never guess it, but one of the best wings in Thailand is atâŚ.KFC.
American fast food chains regularly come up with local menu items that appeal to the Thai palate. Most of these are one-offs, but once in a while, something does exceedingly well and it becomes a permanent item.
Thatâs the story of Wingz Zabb. They had their debut in 2004, and almost 20 years later, theyâre as popular as ever.
The secret to the wingsâ popularity is the seasoning powder that coats them. Salty, zingy, spicyâŚthey hit all the flavour notes that Thai people love. Theyâre SO loved, in fact, that you can buy bags of copycat "Wingz Zabb powder" in grocery stores in Thailand! Even Lays Thailand has made Wingz Zabb flavour chips that I am very sad I missed.
Canât make it to Thailand? Not to worry, I decoded the recipe for you and I think is even better than KFCâs đ. A word of warning: These wings are intense. The flavour is strong. You donât need much to be satisfied.
Pro tip: Iâve made these strong the way I like them, but if you find them a little âtoo intense,â increase the amount of toasted rice powder in the seasoning mix to mellow it out.
Such a pity! We arrive in NYC on 30th November :(
