Sawaddee Ka 🙏🏼
It’s hard for me to believe that I started my YouTube channel over 15 years ago. Tom yum goong was my first ever video, followed by laab and green curry. Then for my 4th video I decided it was time for a dessert debut, which was, of course, mango sticky rice.
It had to be. It’s the most famous Thai dessert, and for many people, the only Thai dessert they know, if they know any.
5 years after its debut, I released an updated video in 2014, and now 10 years later, version 3.0, more extravagant than ever, has dropped. So in 15 years, I have shared 3 mango sticky rice videos, and believe me when I say that this is the best one yet.
What’s different about this one? Aside from general quality improvement (4K!) and more important tips, I had always wanted to share how Thai people make different colours of rice.
The black sticky rice and the green pandan version have been around for a long time, but in recent years people have started getting creative with all sorts of colours which elicit a WOW at the table the way the plain white rice version never could.
Not gonna lie it is a lot of work to make all 7 colours (though perfect for pride 🏳️🌈), but 3 colours are totally manageable and more than enough to get you said wow. The blog post also contains lots of tip for advance prep to ensure you’re not stressing out on serving day.
Enjoy!
Who else! 😆
I watched at least 50 of your videos before and you are def my Thai hero chef :) Thank you for all the videos and information!
I was actually JUST preparing like 3-4 thai dishes including mango sticky rice. So I was gonna double check some ingredients for Mango Sticky Rice and found your newest updated blog by chance already before I got your mail!
It inspired me to make butterfly and pandan soak right away. I will share it with my guests tomorrow together with many more Thai flavours :)
